Apple Cinnamon Baked French Toast

Ingredients:

1 large loaf French Bread/Challah/Brioche 8 large eggs 3 c. milk 1 c. sugar 1 T. vanilla 3 t. cinnamon 1 t. nutmeg 6 medium cooking apples (Cortland, Macintosh) 1 T. butter


Directions:

Slice bread into 1-1/2” slices. Spray a 9” x 13” glass baking dish with corn oil or non-stick spray. Place bread in dish, placing tightly together. In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, 1/2 c. sugar, milk and vanilla with a wire whisk for 30 seconds. Pour half of the egg mixture of the bread. Peel, core and slice the apples. Place the apples over the bread to cover. Pour the remaining egg mixture over the apples to coat evenly. MIx the remaining 1/2 c. sugar with the cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle evenly over the apples. Dot with butter. Cover and refrigerate over night. Preheat oven to 350° F. Uncover dish and bake 1 hour; it will rise and brown nicely. Remove from oven and allow to rest 5-10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares and serve with heated syrup.
