Shoo-Fly Pie

Ingredients:

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup vegetable shortening 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 cup hot water 1/2 cup molasses 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust


Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. 2. In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, salt, brown sugar, and shortening and mix with your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 3. In a separate bowl combine the baking soda, hot water, and molasses. 4. Add all but 1 cup of the crumbs to the molasses mixture and gently stir. Pour the combined mixture into the pie crust. Sprinkle the pie with the remaining 1 cup of crumbs. 5. Bake 35 minutes.
