Spicy Beef Stew

Ingredients:
2 lbs. beef sirloin cubed salt and pepper to taste 1/2 c. olive oil 2-1/2 lbs. small white onions peeled 1 6-oz. can of tomato paste 1/2 c. red wine 2 cloves garlic minced 1 bay leaf 1 cinnamon stick 4 whole cloves 1/4 t. ground cumin 1 T. brown sugar 2 T. raisins
Directions:
Season meat with salt and pepper. Add oil to saucepan and brown meat over medium heat. Add onions. Combine remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix. Pour over meat and onions. Cover and simmer gently for 3 hours.
